Shell Deer Park Volunteers Help Feed Two Communities

The last days of June saw Shell Deer Park volunteers providing assistance to two local communities.

Deer Park’s Interfaith Helping Hands food pantry received an influx of non-perishables collected during a month-long food drive at Shell Deer Park.

Kelly Showalter-Donahoe and Darryl Hurt of Shell delivered the contributions on June 27, which filled up two SUVs and a pick-up truck.

Elle Yarish, an Interfaith Helping Hands volunteer, thanked Donahoe and Hurt on behalf of Shell by saying, “You’re an answer to a prayer. We were beginning to run low on several of the items you brought.”

On June 29, approximately twenty Shell Deer Park volunteers carried out an early July 4 holiday Meals-on-Wheels distribution for 41 residents of Channelview. The Shell volunteers first reported to the Grayson Center, then collected the meals and delivered them to the families.

Deborah Jackson, who led the Shell project, said, “Even though it was rainy, slick and wet, our volunteers enthusiastically helped make the day brighter for the 41 people. The meals were delivered along with smiles and an affirmation of our freedom that we celebrate every July 4.”

Shell’s volunteer organization, SERVE (Shell Employees/Retirees Volunteer Effort), is an integral part of Shell Deer Park’s community outreach program that participates in more than 10 major volunteer activities a year.
