| Chemical Plant wins safety award
Shell Deer Park Chemical recently received an American Chemistry Council Responsible Care award for its achievements in preventing employee and contractor occupational injuries and illnesses during 2005. The Certificate of Honor was presented to Deer Park Chemical for zero employee days away from work, job transfer and job restriction cases.
Two other Shell Chemical U.S. sites β Norco and Geismar β each received a Certificate of Achievement for zero employee days away from work cases.
βIn Shell, safety awareness rightly should be first nature, since we have been involved in complex and challenging activities for more than 100 years,β says Shell Chief Executive Jeroen van der Veer.
According to the ACC, Responsible Care member companies are twice as safe as the overall chemical industry and four and a half times safer than the average of the US manufacturing sector. Deer Park Chemical has been a Responsible Care member for more than a decade.
