| Shell Deer Park Major Maintenance to Impact Local Traffic
Maintenance ‘turnarounds’ under way at Deer Park Chemical are adding to traffic congestion on the State Highway 225 westbound feeder road where it intersects with Tenneco Road and Tidal Road. The number of contract workers at Shell will peak at approximately 2,100 in mid-October, and will decline as the projects are completed in early November.
Heaviest traffic is occurring during staggered shift changes from
5 - 6 a.m. and 7 - 8 a.m., and 5 - 6 p.m. and 7 - 8 p.m. daily, with reduced staffing on Sundays. Shell has arranged for Harris County sheriff’s deputies to assist with traffic control.
Because the turnarounds involve shutting down and restarting process units, there is the possibility of higher than normal flaring the last week in September and the first week in November. We have put procedures in place to minimize flaring at all times.
