Deer Park Chemical’s Fran Haydar, Bill Watson, Paul Larson, Marlon Reyes Granados and Monica Norman received Shell’s prestigious Executive Vice President (EVP) award in November for identifying and implementing sustainable turnaround and non-energy cash costs improvement activities. The team’s work helped reduce fixed costs at Deer Park Solvents. The Deer Park team was one of 13 teams worldwide to receive the EVP award. Bill Watson, Solvents unit manager, says the cost reductions, coupled with margin improvement activities, transformed Deer Park’s Solvents’ assets to a cost-competitive position. “Our team ‘followed the money’ by identifying, prioritizing and relentlessly pursuing the critical few reductions in operations, base maintenance, turnaround, indirect, enabling and exceptional costs,” he says.
