Shell Deer Park employees and golf hole sponsors competed in the 14th annual Olefins and Heavy Olefins Golf Tournament, held in November at the Battleground Golf Course. The tournament raised $25,000 for the Boys and Girls Harbor in La Porte.
Shell Deer Park's Eva and Toby Mendoza organized the tournament, which raised $11,000 more than last year. Over the years, the Olefins Golf Tournament has raised about $125,000 for the Boys and Girls Harbor.
“We would like to thank the hole sponsors, supporting vendors and volunteers who help make this event a success,“ says Eva Mendoza. Eleven companies sponsored the tournament at the platinum level, compared to three platinum-level sponsors last year.
Jimmy Wilfong (Shell PEI), Kelly Jones (Pro-Inspect) and Terry Sandlin (Pro-Inspect) won the first-place trophy with a score of 53.
The Boys and Girls Harbor in La Porte is a nonprofit, long-term residential facility that houses about 70 children. In addition to the money raised at the Olefins Golf Tournament, Shell Deer Park employees volunteer at the charity throughout the year.
