Change at the Top for Shell Deer Park Refining Company

Tim S. Hake joined Shell Deer Park Refining Company (SDPRC) as president and chief executive officer, effective June 1. He succeeded Stacy Methvin who transferred to downtown Houston as vice president of transportation for Shell Oil Products US.

Prior to his current assignment, Hake was deputy chief executive officer of Alliance Refining Company Ltd. in Thailand, a company that was formed from the combined operations of Shell and Caltex refineries.

Hake started with Shell in 1974 as a technologist at the Shell Haven Refinery in Essex, England. During his career he held positions of increasing responsibility, including executive director and refinery manager of Rayong Refinery Company in Thailand, and start-up manager and general manager of the Shell Tabangao Refinery in The Philippines.

“My main challenge at Shell Deer Park is to provide world-class leadership that will advance the refinery’s performance,” said Hake. “This must be accomplished while operating safely, reliably and with full regard for the environment.”

Hake outlined three key objectives he expects to achieve: 1) Establish SDPRC as the premier heavy sour crude refining company; 2) Share and implement refining “best practices” on a global basis; and 3) Live and work according to the values of excellence, integrity, teamwork and mutual respect for all people.

A chemical engineering graduate of the University of Surrey, Hake also earned a post-graduate diploma in management studies from the University of East Anglia.

Hake and his wife, Uan, are the parents of four daughters ages 17-23, who attend school outside the U.S. He enjoys hiking, camping, racing go-karts, golf, mountain biking, water sports, and collecting and restoring furniture.
